Dr Winter, a renowned expert on transgender health based at Curtin University in Perth, will share findings from his groundbreaking research which examines job discrimination against transgender people in SE Asia countries.
This is a large-scale study which is planned to be conducted in other countries.

Dr Sam Winter
Psychologist
Dr Sam Winter is a psychologist by training and professional experience. Since 2000, he has researched, taught and published in transgender health, as well as worked with transgender clients. He worked for 30 years at the University of Hong Kong, and now heads up a sexology team in the School of Public Health at Curtin University in Perth. He has worked with a number of UN agencies (including UNDP, WHO, UNAIDS and UNESCO), as well as with community organisations working on health issues for transgender people.
Dr Winter was a commissioned lead author for papers in a recent series on transgender health in the medical journal Lancet. He is a board member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and was on the authoring team for the WPATH Standards of Care (SOC-7), which guides Hospital Authority services for transgender people in Hong Kong and worldwide. He is currently involved in research into employment discrimination against trans people in several SE Asian countries. He continues to work with others to promote comprehensive and inclusive gender recognition legislation; in Hong Kong, Australia and elsewhere.
