Association of World Citizens Hong Kong China
The Association serves the local needy LGBT+ people with specific emphasis on the transgender community to improve their mental health, defend their rights, relieve their plights and educate the public to create a more inclusive society. Since 2013, the Association has been empowering transgender people by running workshops to improve the adaptability of transwomen in society. It also offers remedial solutions to members of the transgender community suffering from discrimination. The Association produces videos to educate the public to promote inclusiveness and works with the Public Sector to serve the needs of the community. Given the meaningful work the Association has been doing, other external stakeholders including the business community, government representatives, universities, local media and other not-for-profit organisations have collaborated with the Association to support their various initiatives.
Eversheds Sutherland
In response to the Hong Kong government's public consultation on gender recognition in 2017, Eversheds Sutherland formed an inter-disciplinary working group on gender recognition with stakeholders in the community to conduct initiatives including publishing an educational outreach bilingual pamphlet, an educational video, as well as online and paper petitions which obtained over 1,200 signatures to support gender recognition legislation without the pre-condition of surgical requirement. Not only did the firm make a joint submission to the government consultation, Eversheds Sutherland also delivered 9 external presentations on the topic at different events including the Pride Parade and at industry network meetings. Through all these impressive initiatives, Eversheds Sutherland has set an outstanding example among the business community on how companies can be involved in social advocacy.
Henry Tse
Transgender Activist
As a transman born and raised in Hong Kong, Henry filed a judicial review in 2017 to challenge the Hong Kong Government on current coercive policy on full sex reassignment surgery. He uses himself as a vehicle to push the Government to enact gender recognition legislation for the better lives of the transgender community. Henry has been proactive in engaging various stakeholders on this subject by giving sharing his story with universities, companies and religious. He also spoke at Legislation Council conference, and at annual LGBT+ events such as the Pride Parade and Pink Dot to urge for action. His vocal activism and bravery has raised public and media awareness on the rights of transgender persons and has made pa ositive impact on trans inclusion.
Siufung Law
Teaching Assistant, Department of Comparative Literature, The University of Hong Kong; Ambassador of Gay Games Hong Kong 2022
As a genderqueer athlete, a lecturer and public speaker on gender studies, Siufung devotes himself to educating the public and especially younger generations on gender diversity and the possibilities of transcending gender binaries. He promotes gender fluidity and diversity through sports and academia and has been featured widely in mainstream, online and print media. Siufung was one of the few trans people in Hong Kong who used his voice and influence to advocate for legalisation change to include gender recognition laws in Hong Kong. Siufung also presents himself as a genderfluid iconic athlete and introduced the concept of gender queer to the Asian world as the ambassador for Gay Games Hong Kong 2022. His out and vocal identity has successfully led to a more open discussion on genderfluidity and the promotion of transgender inclusion.
